Chemistry Cake

Last week was my last week of 6th form so I made a chemistry cake for our last chemistry lesson. It's a plain vanilla sponge with a chocolate ganache in the middle. Now back to revising :)

Charlie's birthday cake

For Charlie's cake, I did a marbled sponge with a chocolate ganache centre which was another first for me. The plaque in the centre, I drew free hand a couple of days in advance so it was a lot less fragile to handle and so I didn't have a repeat of the lion on the Chelsea cake where it snapped in several places, and I had to piece it back together on the cake. The roses are handmade and I have to say thanks to the woman who owns my local sugar craft shop because the shop was out of stock of purple food colouring so she gave me some from her private stock.
Another shot of the cake in Wetherspoons :)

Sadly, I'm back to 6th form this week so I won't be doing as many cakes but I'll try to update it fortnightly in between revision sessions!

Chelsea Football Club cake

I'm a bit late posting this one as I made it last week for my other half's birthday and if you hadn't guessed from the title he supports Chelsea.

I used royal icing run outs for the lettering (this was another first attempt). If I did this cake again, I probably wouldn't of used the run outs for the smaller letters because they were really fiddly and would have been easier to pipe directly onto the cake. The lion and the blue circle are blue sugar paste.
The actual cake was chocolate with a rich butter cream filling.

Easter Sunday

So today is Easter Sunday and I made chocolate Easter cake. The base is chocolate sponge and was baked in a metal jelly mould to give the basket shape. The initial icing was done with a basket weave nozzle and a piping bag and I used a chocolate butter cream icing. The edging was with a star nozzle but the same icing.

The sugarflowers on the bottom were my first attempt so they're a little rough n' ready.

Happy Easter everyone!

Baby shower cake

This cake was made for a surprise baby shower for a close friend. The cake itself is a basic victoria sponge with a plain buttercream and strawberry jam centre. I have cheated a little but this was a first attempt at two tier cake after a while of not baking.
Enjoy! :)

Firstly introductions,

I'm a student just finishing my A levels and in my spare time I love to bake.

In this blog, I want to show you what I do in my spare time and hopefully improve my skills along the way :)
